PLAYLIST 4 PARKINSON'S
Music, Movement, Mood & Parkinson's

About
Playlist4Parkinson's evolved as a side project out of the scientific study Music, Movement, Mood and Parkinson's. People with Parkinson's disease were asked about the way in which they used music to aid and accompany them in their daily lives.
The Following site is dedicated to the playlists that were compiled out of interventions with, and based on preferences by people with Parkinson's.
This research was carried out by Prof. Dr. Dawn Rose. For further in-depth information about the project, contact and possible collaborations with the team behind MMMP please click HERE.
It is the aim of Playlists4Parkinsons to create a sense of community, and empower patients to navigate their Parkinson's journey with strength and resilience. We envisage that these playlists grow with further inputs from individuals with Parkinson's – if you want to find out how you can help us achieve this please visit the GROW section of our website below.

Our Story with
Music & Parkinson's
Our research began with a small network grant from Parkinson’s UK. We invited people with Parkinson’s in the Hertfordshire (UK) area to develop a research agenda to investigate how music can help reduce Parkinson’s symptoms and improve movement and mood. The research question was:
Which music should we use, when and why?
The question seems simple, but is difficult to answer because "music taste" and "music use" is also very personal.
Step 1: We know from previous research that ‘our music’ is what connects us to others, to our pasts, and that we use music to change our moods and motivate us!
Thanks to further funding from Parkinson Schweiz and the Swiss National Science Foundation, we started to answer the aforementioned question by exploring which music people with Parkinson’s use and why. You can read more about this research HERE.
Step 2: We shared these findings through two Playlists for Parkinson’s LIVE! concerts at Royal Northern College of Music, and at the School of Music, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. We programmed the concerts to reflect the songs people with Parkinson’s had referenced and their reasons for using them.
Step 3: Through our surveys in the UK and Switzerland we collected hundreds of example songs that people with Parkinson’s use to help them in different ways. We gathered information on the songs, the style of music and the individual stories, as to why this music works for them, This site was built to share this information and act as a source of inspiration to let individuals discover how music can help them, which songs other people with Parkinson’s have used, and for what purpose. Lastly we encourage everyone to use this resource to develop their own personalised playlists. Enjoy exploring.
